For those of you who are not at all into anime or just somehow haven’t heard of this, watch this video of the first opening credit sequence and you will know why it’s awesome:
It’s a great show full of action and shocking story turns. And the start to season 2 was great: Eren got up after resting from his epic fight with Annie, Mikasa waited at his bedside and clings to her scarf. The character relationship between those two is and remains something really unique and is nicely supported by a good piece of score.
Meanwhile, there is a titan in Wall Sheena. Apparently, a priest knew about that and seems to know more but is withholding pretty important information. Annie has somehow encased herself in impenetrable Titan skin and District Commander Hange suspects the whole wall is made of titans. I hope they get him to talk in time but the way this show likes to be emotionally destructive, I have a bad feeling about this.
In the meantime, the 104th Cadet Corps are held off the action because they might have another mole, but as titans approach (Wall Rose has been breached), they ride out to warn the villages. Sasha will return to her village in the next episode and we’ll find out about her past. Conny’s village is probably annihilated but he still wants to see it for himself.
Senior Commander Miche did a great job distracting the titans who were approaching in an amazing action sequence with an amazing-as-usual orchestral score but a freaking abnormal titan (the titular Beast Titan) appears and can fucking speak Japanese as well as control other titans. He asks Miche about his maneuver gear and takes it, leaving Miche paralyzed in awe/fear and consequently, he’s eaten by the remaining titans. This was a groundbreaking, shocking revelation and definitely ups the ante for the rest of the season. How is anyone supposed to fight this thing? Why is he so interested in the maneuver gear? He considers it clever so does he understand the technology? What does that mean for this thing’s intellect? Should we be more afraid than we already are?
